Magasin X is a 7-story building with a frame built entirely of wood. It is also the largest office building in Sweden. Using wood as the main building material has significantly lowered its carbon footprint and earned it LEED Platinum certification.

Fasadglas delivered and installed prefabricated facade elements that were manufactured at our production facility in Hultsfred. By choosing glass with specific qualities in relation to their north, south, east or west orientation, we were able to optimize colour rendering, transparency, reflection and energy, while simultaneously avoiding external solar shading.

The biggest challenges of this project were installation of each element (which had to be done from the inside of the building) and logistics (where the various elements had to delivered and stored inside the building prior to installation). We developed and manufactured a special lifting yoke and glazing robot that enabled us to install the 3×3 metre elements from the inside. Key success factors for this type of project are planning and logistics. We used JIT deliveries for the elements sent directly from our production facility in Hultsfred.

The project was nominated for Glaspriset 2022 (awarded by GBF, Swedish trade association for the glass industry) with the motivation that it was a unique collaboration where all of the parties involved shared the same focus of minimal carbon footprint without sacrificing on design or function.
