Kajplats 6 won the people’s choice award for Stockholm Building of the Year 2022 (Årets Stockholmsbyggnad 2022). It is the 13th year in a row that the City of Stockholm arranged the competition whereby residents of Stockholm vote to decide which building shall be named Stockholm Building of the Year.
With its 26 floors, Kajplats 6 is the tallest building at Liljeholmskajen. The top floor looks like a gigantic floating ice cube, making it a new landmark that offers magnificent views of Årstaviken Bay.
Working at a high altitude is always a challenge. It has been a very exciting journey, where we collaborated with Schüco to further develop and specially adapt the UDC80 system, which is a structural glazing solution. It is also the only one of its kind. Kajplats 6 was designed by the firm of architects, Ripellino Arkitekter and the developer, JM. Read more about the project here.
Here is the jury’s motivation:
“Kajplats 6 is one of four newly constructed tall buildings along the waterfront at Liljeholmskajen. The open expanse of Årstaviken Bay offers the space and proportions for taller buildings and Kajplats 6, with its sleek design, is a perfect fit. The glass cube at the top, where the restaurant is located, gives it a unique look that really stands out from other waterfront buildings along this stretch. It is wonderful that visitors can come here to get a view of Stockholm from above.”
